Timing: 25 minute lessons with 5 minutes of specific written feedback for improvement.
Pricing: $15 per lesson.
Level: Any level – beginner, intermediate, advanced.
Lesson Design: The student will pick a news piece from Breaking News English.
Pre-lesson: The student will make predictions and say what they like or dislike about the news.
During Lesson: We will listen, read and discuss the news piece together. The student will choose 2 or 3 word order or spelling exercises to do.
Post-lesson: Coach Bill will give feedback on your: grammar, pronunciation, and usage.
Homework: The student will write and practice a short presentation (2 min.) on the news piece (opinion, summary, or future ideas, etc.). They will present it to Coach Bill next class.
For example: A current news story is that the Great Barrier Reef, in Australia, has been valued at $42.5 billion. The student might say they do/do not think you can put a dollar value on natural resources. We would then listen to, read, and discuss the piece. Then we would do 2 or 3 listening and reading exercises about the Great Barrier Reef. At the end of the lesson, Coach Bill will give the student written feedback on their grammar, pronunciation, and English usage. For homework, the student will write and practice a presentation about whether they agree or disagree that you can put a dollar value on a beautiful location, and change to an area in their country.
Future Lessons: When the student is ready, they can pick their own topic to present on (work, family, life, etc.).
Students need: computer, internet access, headphones.
